Obituary

Louis J. "Lou" DeMarco, 73, died Monday, November 8, 2004 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, IA, after a courageous battle with cancer. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, November 12, 2004 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church of which he was a member. Burial will be at Glendale Cemetery.

Lou was born on February 11, 1931, the son of Frank and Mary DeMarco. He was a lifelong resident of Des Moines and graduated from Dowling High School in l948. He retired as Chief Dental Technician at Des Moines Veterans Hospital, after a successful career of 32 years. In addition, Lou owned and operated DeMarco Dental Lab, serving a number of dentists in the Des Moines area through August of this year.

Lou was a member of the Iowa Air National Guard's 132nd Fighter Wing for 20 years, serving as an aircraft maintenance crew chief. His unit was called to active duty during the Korean conflict. He was a member of the Air National Guard retiree group, The Silver Squadron.

He enjoyed boating with friends and family and taught hundreds of people how to water-ski. He was an avid photographer, enjoyed hunting and gardening. Lou was a devoted father and husband that made family his priority. He touched many lives and was loved by all.

Lou is survived by his wife of 50 years, Ann (Celsi) DeMarco; his mother, Mary DeMarco; one daughter, LuAnn (Steve) Gillotti of West Des Moines; three sons, Frank (Mary) of Clive, Dr. Anthony (Elizabeth) of Athens, GA, and John (Lisa) of Overland Park, KS; nine grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, one great- grandchild and one step-great-grandchild; and one brother, Dr. John DeMarco of Des Moines. He was preceded in death by his father; one brother, Frank Jr.; and grandson, Joseph.

Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Thursday, November 11, 2004 at Westover Funeral Home with recitation of the Rosary at 7 p.m. Memorial contributions are requested for the Holy Trinity Foundation or Mercy Hospice of Johnston, IA.
