Lucille Wilmoth Obituary

Lucille (Lucy) Wilmoth left life peacefully at her home on Friday May 9, 2025. She was 77. Visitation will be held from 5:00pm-7:00pm on Monday, May 19, 2025 at Iles Dunn’s Chapel, 2121 Grand Avenue, Des Moines, Iowa 50312. A Funeral Service will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, May 20, 2025 at New Hope United Methodist Church, 4525 Beaver Ave, Des Moines, IA 50310. Interment will follow at Glendale Cemetery.

Born on August 11, 1947, to Robert and Bertha (Bea) Swartz, Lucy grew up in Galesburg, Illinois with four younger brothers. She graduated in 1965 from high school in Galesburg, Illinois. After graduation she attended American University in Washington DC, where she served as an intern with the congressman of her Illinois district. After returning to Galesburg, Lucy married and had two children, Elaine Miller and William “Christopher” Miller.

Lucy was introduced to Danny Wilmoth in February of 1974. They were married on August 31, 1974. Danny would become her loving husband and partner for over 50 years until her passing. She worked as an accountant at Admiral in Galesburg until moving to Des Moines in 1978 so Danny could attend Drake Law School. After Danny’s graduation, they remained in Des Moines. Lucy worked in insurance and accounting until the advent of computers. Lucy retired from Holmes Murphy at the end of 2013. During her time at Holmes Murphy she worked in the accounting department and transitioned into Information Technology department where she managed the agency’s software platform and was a presenter on the software to user group meetings of agencies across the country.

Lucy was active in her church serving terms as chairman of the missions committee and on the kitchen committee. She and Danny hosted small group meetings in their home and at church.
Lucy was kind and compassionate in every way. Lucy had a soft spot in her heart for anyone in need.

Lucy enjoyed gardening, cooking, camping and traveling. She also learned to play golf in 1993 and she and Danny tried to play one morning every week for years. She enjoyed the golf but especially enjoyed having a breakfast hot dog after the round.

Lucy is survived by her loving husband Danny Wilmoth; children, Elaine Eley (Mark Runge), Chris Wilmoth (Niki Prasasouk), Step Daughter Molly (David) Evert.

Grandchildren: Andrew (Whitley) Davidson, Alexis (Todd) Minter, Brian (Breanna Kidder), Jordan Wang, Ashley Wilmoth, Bobby Wilmoth, Jack (Kalisse) Evert, Knox (Amber) Evert, Colin (Gracie) Evert, Cal Evert, Keeper Evert, Maggie Evert

Great Grandchildren: Jacob Davidson, William Davidson, Bradlee Eley, Brayden Eley, Liam Minter, Roan Minter.

She is preceded in death by her parents Bob & Bea Swartz, grandson Bradley Eley.
