Mabel Louise Cernetisch, 84, formerly of Des Moines, passed from this life on Monday, July 5, 2010 at her home in Madrid. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 10, at the Sanborn Memorial Chapel in the Madrid Home, where the family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service time on Saturday. Cremation rites will follow the service on Saturday. Private burial of the cremated remains will be take place at a later date at Shaul Cemetery in Ottumwa

Mabel was born on June 13, 1926 in Ottumwa, IA, to Rex Orville and Elsie Nan (Beagle) Speirs. She married Martin Walter "Marty" Cernetisch, Jr. on October 3, 1948 in Ottumwa. They were transferred to Des Moines, Iowa, where they made their home until 1997, when Mabel and Marty moved to Madrid, Iowa. Upon moving to the Madrid Home, Mabel was the chief administrator of Greater Love Ministries for ten years. In her earlier years, Mabel was formerly employed as a Bookkeeper and Office Manager with Rural Optics. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Madrid and a 60-year member of the Eastern Star Lodge.

She is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband of nearly 62 years, Marty Cernetisch Jr. of Madrid; three children, Ruth Elaine (Tom) Stamatelos of Riverside, CA, John Martin (Carol) Cernetisch of Katy, TX and Miriam Nan (Russ) Gibbs of Newport Richey, FL; one sister, Gladys (Merle) Boos of West Bend, WI; dear friends, Jerry and Debby Wylie and their sons, Nick (Kami) and Nathan all of Urbandale; ten grandchildren, Thane, Peter, Kaili and Maili Stamatelos, Brandon, Travis and Anna Cernetisch and Jay, Heather and Crystal Gibbs; five great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family members and friends. Mabel was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Wayne Speirs; and one son, David Cernetisch.

Memorials may be made to The Madrid Home – ACTS Fund; St. John's Lutheran Church in Madrid or Iowa Health Hospice.
