Obituary

Maedene Drake, 95, died Saturday, March 22, 2008 at USA Healthcare in Urbandale, where she had resided for several years. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, March 25, at Iles Funeral Homes – Westover Chapel in Des Moines, where the family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines.

Maedene was born on April 2, 1912, the daughter of James and Nora McCormick. She received her B.A. degree from the University of Northern Iowa. Maedene married Marvin Drake on December 18, 1943 in Russell, IA and they moved to Des Moines in 1951. She taught elementary school in Des Moines for 25 years, mostly at Cattlell Elementary retiring in 1977.

Maedene enjoyed her family, gardening and learning new things. Maedene and Marvin traveled until she became unable to due to Alzheimer's disease.

She is survived by her two sons, Dennis (Jackie) Drake of Brooklyn, IA and David (Renee) Drake of West Des Moines; grandchildren, Jaxon, Daedrian, Justin and Michael; along with great-grandchildren. Maedene was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin in 2006.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
