Marcia Louise Hannan, 59, passed away peacefully Sunday, July 15, 2012 surrounded by her loving family, after a sixteen month struggle from Pancreatic Cancer. Services will be held 10:30 am, Thursday, July 19, 2012 at St. Pius X Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Glendale Cemetery.

Marcy was born April 14, 1953 in Des Moines, daughter of William Gerhart and Sally Louise (O'Meara) Hummel. She attended St. Pius X grade school, Saint Joseph Academy for two years, then graduated from Urbandale High School in 1971. Marcy received her BSN from the College of Saint Teresa, Winona, Minnesota in 1975. Marcy was a nurse, caring for others during her 40 year career. Most recently she worked as a Registered Nurse for Orthopaedic Outpatient Surgery Center.

Marcy was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, Teams of Our Lady, and Polk County Master Gardeners.

Surviving are father, William Gerhart Hummel of Urbandale, mother, Sally Louise Hummel of Urbandale, husband, Gordon Hannan of Urbandale, daughter, Kelly (Pete) Frett of Des Moines, son, Brian Hannan of Urbandale, brother, Mark (Jane) Hummel of Urbandale, sister, Susan Hummel (Larry Pace) of Dallas, TX, brother, Kevin Hummel of Urbandale, brother, Perry Hummel of Des Moines, sister, Lynne Hummel (Alan Abuhl) of Ankeny, sister, Janet (Kelly) Broderick of Dallas Center, and many beloved in-laws, nieces and nephews.

Marcy was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Hummel and her niece, Gretchen Hummel, her father-and mother-in-law, Daniel Edward Hannan, Jr. and Jeanne Hannan.

Marcy married her high school sweetheart, Gordy Hannan and enjoyed 38 years building a life together, raising their children, focusing on faith, family and friends. Her children, Kelly and Brian were the lights of her life. Marcy was the support, the glue, the nurturer of her family and friends. She was an amazing wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend to everyone. Marcy was sustained by a strong spirituality and faith expressed through the Catholic Church. On top of all that, she was beautiful with a smile that lit up a room. Marcy was warm, a great listener and gave off a loving energy to everyone she encountered. She had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh and have fun. Marcy loved to garden and frequently volunteered at the Discovery Garden at the Iowa State Fairgrounds and the Showhouse at the Des Moines Botanical Center. She also enjoyed cooking, the Culinary Tour, tennis, golf, traveling, summers at the cabin in northern Minnesota, and enjoying her favorite cocker spaniels, Ben and Jerry.

Friends will be received from 5:00 - 7:00 pm Wednesday at St. Pius X Parish, Urbandale, where a vigil service will begin 7:00 pm.

Marcy and her family thank their families, friends and Marcy's coworkers at OOSC for their unfailing love and support.
