Obituary

Margaret L. Kenyon, 91, passed away on Monday, May 28th, 2012, at home. The family will receive friends from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 1, 2012 at First United Methodist Church in Des Moines, followed by funeral services at 10:30 a.m.

Margaret was born in Tama County, Iowa and was a lifelong resident of Iowa. She went to country school in Tama County and graduated from Gilman High School. While in high school, she played guard on the girls' basketball team that went to the state tournament in 1936. She spent over 60 years in the Des Moines area working alongside her husband of 68 years, Ronald Kenyon. Over the span of many decades, they owned and managed several farming operations in various parts of Iowa. They also founded and operated their own road construction companies with numerous other related businesses.

Margaret and Ronald were strong supporters of many causes, most notably, First United Methodist Church in downtown Des Moines, Iowa Methodist Medical Center, the University of Iowa, Iowa State University, the Iowa State Fair Blue Ribbon Foundation, and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

She is survived by her daughters, Sandra (Jim) Grider of Louisville, KY and Rhonda (Derek) Hill of Clive, IA; grandchildren Wendy (Joel) Johnson of West Des Moines, IA, Allison Brimmer of Fort Lauderdale, FL, Christopher (Jenny) John of Roanoke, VA and Schuyler (Christina) John of Louisville KY; six great-grandchildren with whom Margaret especially enjoyed spending time; and nephew, Richard Quigley of Miami Beach, FL. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Kenyon and her daughter, Sharon Kenyon.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Greater Iowa Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 3580 EP True Parkway, Suite 101, West Des Moines, IA 50265.
