Margaret "Midge" passed away at the age of 81 on Saturday, January 22 from complications following an automobile accident. She was born in Milwaukee, WI, met her husband of 50 years, Ambrose, in Chicago and moved to Des Moines, where she lived for 30 years. She and Ambrose co-managed and owned the McNerney- Christie insurance agency here. In Des Moines, she was active with many charitable organizations, most notable the Bishop Drumm Home. She was a member of St. Augustin's Parish.

For the past 25 years she was a resident of Palm Beach Shores where she was very active in the community. She served on the Palm Beach Shores Town Council for twelve years and stepped down in 2002. She was also active in the Seasiders Club and was a volunteer with the auxiliary fire department and the youth council. In her honor the flag over town hall was lowered to half-mast for three days.

Midge had two children, Molly and Matt. Her brother, Ken Gross of Melbourne, FL, and her son, Matthew of Westport, CT survive her. She has four grandchildren, Katie Gillard of Portland, OR, Craig Gillard of Ft. Piece, FL, and Christopher and Rebecca McNerney of Westport, CT; and a great-grandson, Conner Gillard.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 25 in the Saint Ambrose section of Woodland Cemetery. The family would appreciate, in lieu of flowers, that donations are made to the American Cancer Society in Midge's name.
