Mariann Hunt Obituary

Mariann Hunt, 77, of Des Moines, died at 10:25 a.m., Monday, November 15, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

Mariann was born May 28, 1933 to Angelo and Esther Verna Ranchino in Herrin, IL. She was a 1951 graduate of Herrin High School and graduated from Gradwolh School of Medical Technology in St. Louis, MO. She formerly worked as a medical technician in Kansas City, MO, where she met James A. Hunt in 1961. Mariann and James were married on February 18, 1962 and shared 48 years together.

Mariann was a longtime member of Wakonda Christian Church in Des Moines. She served as a board member, committee chairman, elder and board secretary. Mariann was an un-official historian for the church. If someone needed a phone number or copy of some documents, she came up with the answer and would record it. Even with all her illness, she worked very hard at keeping papers up to date all the while maintaining a very likeable attitude. She will be sorely missed by her family and her larger family of friends, whose lives she touched through her friendship, care, concern and genuine love for others.

Mariann is survived by her husband Jim (who felt very lucky to be married to her); three daughters, Pamela and her husband Frank Schoonover and Cynthia Abrahamson all of Des Moines and Sheri and her husband Steve Meyer of Gilbert, IA; six grandchildren, Scott Schoonover, Andrea Wyckoff, Chad (Diane)Porter all of Des Moines and Rachael, Zac and Ben Meyer of Gilbert; three great-grandchildren, Dylan Schoonover and Tegan and Reese Wyckoff all of Des Moines; sister, Cheryl Trench and her husband Robert of Herrin, IL; sister-in-law, Veda Ranchino Morgan of Arkadelphia, AR; brother-in-law, Donald E. Hise of Marion, IL; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Alma Joy Hise; brother, James Ranchino and infant brother, John Ranchino.

Per Mariann's request, cremation rites will be accorded. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, November 19, 2010 at Wakonda Christian Church, Associate Pastor Gene Kelsey will officiate. A lunch reception will follow the services. A memorial gathering will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, November 18, 2010 at Iles Funeral Homes – Dunn's Chapel. Per Mariann's request, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wakonda Christian Church, 3938 Fleur Drive, Des Moines, IA 50321.
