Marilyn Ann Fritz, 90, passed away Wednesday, February 6, 2019, at the Madrid Home for the Aged in Madrid, IA.

Marilyn was born December 8, 1928, in Harlan, IA, to Arthur and Magdalena (Scheuring) Book. She married Harold Fritz September 1, 1956 and had one child, Teresa Ann and they made their home in Harlan, Iowa. Marilyn began working in a local canning factory and later did housekeeping for area families and was a waitress at the Evergreen Inn in Harlan. They was lifetime members of the American Legion. After Harold’s death in November, 1986 she moved to Holdrege, NE in 1991 where she worked as a waitress at the Zephyr cafe and was an assistant cook to a local harvest crew. She was a member of the All Saints Catholic Church and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles. She later moved to Denison, Iowa and later to Boone, IA until September of 2018 when she moved to Madrid to be closer to her daughter and her family.

Throughout her life, Marilyn liked to travel. She enjoyed the sunshine in Florida and always talked about moving there. She would travel on the bus across country to visit grandchildren in Nebraska. Marilyn spent time playing cards with family and friends and liked going to the casinos. She attended Bingo whenever she could get out and go. She recently became an avid pool player and would challenge anyone to a game. She was a social butterfly and was always on the go. She has an infectious laugh and a pride in her kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids. She would help anyone that she came across that needed a place to stay, a meal, or just good conversation. She would talk to anyone and everyone. She always encouraged those around her to live and never care what anyone else thought. She was active in the church, believed in God, the saints, and recited her Rosaries.

Marilyn is survived by her daughter, Teresa (Jack) Huffstutler of Madrid, IA; sister, Alma Book of Coon Rapids, IA, niece Mary (Jerry) Schultes, of Dedham, IA, two Grandchildren, Angela (Troy) Brown of North Platte, NE, and Amy Huffstutler (Baylee) of Madrid, IA, four great grandchildren, Courtney, Callie, Emmalee and Mackenzie, and soon to be great, great granddaughter, Emersyn Grace and many great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold, brothers, Edmond Book and Alfred Book, sisters, Mildred Smart, Margaret Book, Leone Book, and her parents.
