Obituary

Mr. Mark Thomas Glaser of Des Moines passed away on February 2nd of 2025 at the age of 65.

Mark was born on June 1st of 1959 in Sioux City, Iowa to James and June Glaser. The Glaser family shortly moved to Wilber, Nebraska and eventually settled in Urbandale in 1967. There, Mark developed into an exceptional baseball and hockey player, a regular participant in youth all-star teams representing his community. Attending Dowling High School, Mark made many friends and flourished socially. He was not one to miss a gathering, whether school or student planned! Unprecedently, Mark was elected Senior Class President in the spring of his Junior year.

Early in his years, Mark would overcome substance and alcohol dependency and start a family. He married Pamela McGovern in 1982 in Des Moines, and they moved to Omaha. They were blessed with two wonderful children, Jordan and Brittany. Mark eventually returned to Des Moines to continue battling his substance and alcohol addiction that would afflict him throughout his life. Despite his persistent struggles, Mark was a proud father and son. During a relatively sober and peaceful period in his adult life, Mark helped his son Jordan find a part-time job in Grinnell, Iowa that helped keep Jordan occupied and on track to ultimately obtain his college degree.

Mark is survived by his children, Jordan (Emily) Glaser of Council Bluffs and Brittany Sabutis of Omaha, as well as four grandchildren, Michael, George, James and Maggie. He is also survived by his siblings, James (Jeanne) Glaser of Des Moines, Martha (Chris) Adams of Franklin TN, Jonathan (Cheryl) Glaser of Clive and Phil (Katharina) Glaser of Des Moines. Mark was preceded in death by his parents, James and June Glaser and his brother, Paul Glaser.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am, Thursday, February 13th, 2025 at St. Augustin’s Catholic Church in Des Moines. Cremation rites will follow. Inurnment will be held in a private service at Corpus Christi Cemetery, Fort Dodge, IA.
