Marlys was born September 15, 1937 at Canby, Minnesota and moved to Iowa at age 3. On March 16, 1956 she married Jerry Fischer at Garner, Iowa. She courageously fought the disease with strength and perseverance, which she was well known for. Marlys continued to work until August, 1999 when she decided to retire after 15 years with Home Care Services of Boone County. Marlys used her free time to enjoy spending time with her family, cooking, camping, fishing, and spending winters in Texas.

She is survived by her husband, Jerry. Two sons, Michael of Madrid and Jerry (Diane) of Knoxville, IA. Two daughters, Deborah (John) Harshbarger of Urbandale, IA. and Donna Fischer and Gary Peterson of Madrid, IA. A Goddaughter, Shelly Denison.
