Martha Nelson Obituary

Martha M. Nelson, 82, of Urbandale, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2025 at Kavanagh House in Des Moines.

Martha was born November 6, 1942, in Wilmar, Minnesota the daughter of Marion “Maynard” Lande and Margaret Lande née Nelson. She grew up in Wilmar Minnesota with two younger brothers, Bruce and Greg.

Martha worked as an interior decorator, salesperson for several different companies in telecommunications, retail, and training materials. She was also a licensed gemologist and a medical technician.

Martha’s hobbies included cooking, gardening, crocheting, and being an amazing mother and grandmother also known as Mamoo. Her passion was spending time with her grandchildren Kevin and Robby.

Martha is survived by her children, Kent Nelson of Mill Valley, CA, Heidi Nelson of Clive, IA and Chad Nelson and his wife Joanna Nelson of West Des Moines, IA and her grandsons Kevin Nelson and Robby Nelson. Martha was preceded in death by her brother Greg Lande and sister in law Sue Lande.

The family would like to thank the Kavanagh House and all the doctors, nurses, staff, and volunteers that took such wonderful care of their mother, sister, and grandmother.

A Celebration of life will be held May 31, 2025 from 1-3 pm at Faith Lutheran Church in Clive located at 10395 University Ave 50325. A livestream will be available to view for anyone who wishes to participate. You can find the livestream on Faith Lutheran Church's website, https://faithlc.org/.
