Dr. Martin S. Rosenfeld passed away at his home on Wednesday, November 24, 2010. He died the way he lived, with great courage and dignity surrounded by family and dear friends. A funeral service was held on Friday, November 26 at Tifereth Israel Synagogue with burial at Jewish Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines, Iowa.

Marty was born on January 11, 1946, in Des Moines. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Iowa before earning his Doctorate of Osteopathic Medicine from the University of Osteopathic Medicine and Health Sciences in Des Moines. Marty completed his general surgery internship at Michael Reese Hospital and Medical Center in Chicago before his orthopaedic residency at the University of Tennessee in Chattanooga. He was board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, a member of the Polk County Medical Society, and a fellow in the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the International College of Surgeons, and the American College of Surgeons.

Marty married his high school sweetheart in February 1991, and together they built a house full of love and laughter. He was an avid reader, domino player, and art collector. Marty was always in the company of friends, although the line between friend and family was often blurred. Since his retirement as a partner at Iowa Ortho, Marty could frequently be found with his family playing a round of golf, enjoying a fine cigar at The Cigar Club, or just laughing together while sharing a fine wine. In addition, he was a past president of Tifereth Israel Synagogue and a member of the Iowa Jewish Historical Society, the Za-ga-zig Shriners International, the Iowa Masonry, and the American Israel Public Affairs Committee.

Marty is survived by his wife, Trudi, and their children, daughter Elisa and husband Patrick Jones, daughter Suzanne and husband Lonnie Yoder, daughter Tiffany and husband Morgan Deal, and son Jeremy and wife Chrissy Rosenfeld. Also surviving are grandchildren Jackson, Alison, Reece, Braydon, Max, Jake, George, Avery, and Ryan. Marty also has three daughters, Sari and husband Mark Winnick, Amy and husband Michael Shmarak, Natalie Rosenfeld, and son Andrew Rosenfeld, as well as their children. His sister, Carolyn Rosenfeld, lives in St. Louis, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents, Abraham and Beverly Rosenfeld.

Contributions in honor of Marty can be made to Tifereth Israel Synagogue or The Iowa Jewish Senior Life Center. Contributions can also be made to Craig Hospital of Englewood, Colorado, where Marty spent six months of rehabilitation. Contributions to Craig can be sent in care of Trudi at 13537 Village Court, Clive, Iowa 50312.

Marty's family would like to express their sincerest appreciation to all for the overwhelming outpouring of support, love, and prayers, especially in the past year. A special thank you to Mark, Kristan, Derek, and Mac, without whom Marty could not have gotten this far. These four helped him live life to his fullest.
