Obituary

Marvin H. Dubansky M.D., 83, died Monday, May 14, 2007 at the Iowa Jewish Senior Life Center. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 16 at Tifereth Israel Synagogue of which he was a member. Burial will be at Jewish Glendale Cemetery.

Dr. Dubansky, a lifelong resident of Des Moines, was a graduate of East High School and the University of Iowa for both undergraduate and medical schools. He served as a Lieutenant JG in the U.S. Navy. From 1947-1995 he worked as an orthopedic surgeon founding his own practice, Iowa Orthopaedics in 1953 which grew to a group of 25 by the time of his retirement. He was on staff at Broadlawns Medical Center, Iowa Lutheran Hospital and Mercy Medical Center where he also served as Chief of Staff. He was a past president of the Polk County Medical Society and a member of the Iowa Medical Society and American Medical Association. He was a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery and the American and International Colleges of Surgeons. He rose to the rank of 32nd Degree Mason with the Home Lodge A.F. & A. M. No. 370 and was a member of the Za Ga Zig Shrine.

Dr. Dubansky is survived by his wife, Betty Dubansky of Des Moines; four children, Cynthia Lee Dubansky of Minneapolis, MN, Andrea Dubansky (Barry) Nadler of Ames, Diane Dubansky (Kenneth) Pratt of Norwalk, and Robert J. (Peggy) Dubansky of Cumming; two step-children, Martin Swartz and Carol (Jeff) Mau all of Des Moines; daughter-in-law, Julie Dubansky of West Des Moines; brother, Harlan (Shirley) Dubansky of Tucson, AZ; nine grandchildren, Joshua Dubansky, Erin, Sarah and Ben Nadler, Jesse and Justin Pratt and Jeremy and Gabrielle Dubansky; and four step-grandchildren, Adam and Leah Swartz and Mollie and Zachary Martin. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley Rose Dubansky; son, Stephen Alyn Dubansky; granddaughter, Rebecca Ann Nadler; parents, Israel and Lillian (Lambe) Dubansky, and sister, Bettyann Dubansky.

Memorial Contributions may be made to Tifereth Israel Synagogue or the Iowa Jewish Senior Life Center.
