Obituary

Mary A. Dutcher, 90, of Le Mars, formerly of Des Moines, passed away Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars. A Memorial Service will be held 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 16, 2010 at Iles Funeral Homes – Westover Chapel with burial at Masonic Cemetery.

Mary Anna Ambos was born September 19, 1919 in Council Bluffs to William and Hattie (McGaffin)Ambos. Mary graduated from North High School in Des Moines and later attended Drake University. She was united in marriage to Lawrence Dutcher on May 11, 1941 in Brooklyn, New York while he was in the service. Mary assisted her husband with the operation of Dutcher Stockyards in Des Moines. The couple had lived in Des Moines and Carlisle. In 1978 Mary and Lawrence moved to Bella Vista, Arkansas, where they lived until returning to Urbandale in 2003. Lawrence passed away on August 17, 2007. In May of 2008 Mary moved to Le Mars to be closer to her son, Bruce Dutcher.

Mary has been a longtime member of the United Methodist Church in Des Moines, a member of the P.E.O. in Des Moines and the Des Moines Women's Club.

Survivors include three children and their families; son, Bruce Dutcher and his wife, Betty of Le Mars and their children, Andrea (Michael) Capizzi, Renee (Robbie) Tatum, Hilary Dutcher, Kathy (Ron) Frazer, Kevin (Tonya) Jackson, Rebecca Lopez and Todd Jackson; daughters, Barbara Dutcher of Hobe Sound, Florida and her son, Andrew Dutcher and Nancy Dutcher and her husband, Steve Cahn of St. Mary's, Georgia; 18 great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a brother, Glen Ambos.

Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church.
