Mary Pierce, of Mechanicsburg, PA, and a long-time resident of Dallas Center, IA, passed away on April 11, 2014, three days after her 101st birthday.

Mary was born on April 8, 1913, the eldest of five children born to Francis Marion Landis and Alice Mae (Ward) Landis. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph E. Pierce; two sisters, Lucille Benson and Edna Wingert; and an infant brother.

Mary is survived by her son, Glen Pierce and his wife Linda of Mechanicsburg, PA, with whom she lived for the past six years; her daughter, Carol Craig and her husband Gary of Lawton, OK; six grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; a sister, Frances Hege of Mercersburg, PA; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to being a mother and homemaker, Mary was a school cook in the Dallas Center schools for nearly 20 years. After her retirement in 1976, she volunteered as a classroom aide in kindergarten, first and second grade classes until she was well into her 80's, and received a Governor's Award for volunteer service in 1994.

A member of the Brethren in Christ Church in Dallas Center, Mary held many responsibilities, including serving as chorister, Sunday School superintendent and teacher, and Children's Church leader. In addition to her love and concern for children, she enjoyed gardening and sewing. In her later years, Mary enjoyed word puzzles and reading, and "read through the Bible" for many years. She followed current events and was faithful in praying for missions and missionaries.
