Obituary

Mary “Sandy” Davis, 97, died Saturday, August 24, 2024 at Deerfield Retirement Community in Urbandale. A Celebration of Sandy’s life will be held 3 pm Sunday, September 1st at Deerfield Event Center (13731 Hickman Road in Urbandale).

Sandy was born November 7, 1926 in South Bend, IN to Lynn and Ruth (Kinney) Shurter. She was a graduate of Iowa State University with a degree in Industrial Economics. On October 17, 1948 she married Walter Wilson Davis and the couple settled in the Des Moines area. Sandy was a member of St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church, Women’s Congressional Policy Institute, Questors, P.E.O., P.T.A., Colonial Dames, and the Junior League.

Survivors include her children: Walter Wilson (Jan) Davis, Jr. of Lakewood, OH, Jan Davis of West Des Moines, Paticia Michele (Craig) Hill of Milo, Kelly Ann (Terry) Fox of Des Moines; eight grandchildren: Claudia Davis, Gregory Davis, Wilson Fox, Adam (Abby) Hill, Abbie (Scott) Schurman, Sean (Art Ortiz) Daniels, Hunter (Whitney) Daniels; great grandchildren: Jacob, Kinley, Hadley, Oakley, Reid, Riley, Reagan, Kaydence, Jordan, Hazel and Henry; sister-in-law, Joanne Shurter.

Sandy was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Walter; grandson, Trevor; great grandson, Calvin; brothers: Robert and Jack.
