Mary Pollock Obituary

Mary Ellen (Hutchinson) Pollock passed away November 22, 2024, peacefully at home surrounded by her family. Visitation will be held Friday November 29, 2024, from 4:00pm to 6:00pm at Iles Funeral Home (Hubbell Ave) in Des Moines Iowa. Funeral is Saturday November 30, 2024, starting at 1:00pm at Iles Funeral Home with burial following at Sunset Memorial Gardens on Fleur Drive in Des Moines.

Mary was born May 26th, 1949, in Des Moines Iowa to Paul and Irene Hutchinson. She had 5 brothers and sisters, and they lived a life full of humor and games. One of their favorite games was hot butter blue beans or king of the mountain.

Mary graduated from East High School and married Gary Pollock. They had 2 children, David and Julie. She was a jack of all trades, being able to put her health issues to the side to finish what needs to be done. Her children were her world and everything she did was for their benefit. Friends were her other love in life. She would do anything for her friends if asked.

Old Rock and Roll music was her music, and if there was a dance floor she was on it. Brenda Lee was her favorite music star, and both her kids were able to take her to concerts where she was even able to meet her idol.

Living next to the Iowa State Fair grounds provided opportunities for the family. Mary parked cars for years in her yard, and even showed the kids and grandkids how to do it. Anyone who knows Mary knows she absolutely loves tigers. Her house was decorated with tiger pictures, statues, tables and even decorative plates. Her dream would be to own a tiger, which she knew she could not do, but she came close when she was able to help to take care of baby tigers for a week during the Iowa State Fair. The smile never left her face.

Mary is survived by her son, David (Michelle) Pollock, and a daughter Julie (Duke) Crutcher, 2 brothers Russ (Julie) Hutchinson and Steve Hutchinson, one sister Pam Tharp, 5 grandchildren Blake (Melinda) Crutcher, Dakoda (Kiere) Crutcher, David (Merrissa) Crutcher, Jake Crutcher, Cole (Kayla) Pollock, 5 great grandkids and many additional family and friends.

Proceeded in death by her parents, Paul and Irene Hutchinson, brothers John (Jack/AJ) Hutchinson and William (Bill) Hutchinson, brother-in-law Kenneth Tharp and nephew little Kenny Tharp.
