Obituary

Mary K. Boots, 80, died Sunday, June 19, 2005 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, Iowa. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 22 at First Presbyterian Church, 3100 Easton Boulevard in Des Moines. Burial will be 2 p.m. on Wednesday at the South Oak Grove Cemetery in Stuart, Iowa.

Mary was born on September 3, 1924 in Adair County, IA, She was the only child of E.D. and Mabel Conway. After graduation from Menlo, lA high school, Mary attended American Institute of Business in Des Moines. She left her studies there to return home to Menlo to assist her father on the family farm during World War II. She married Jack R. Boots on July 5, 1946 and had two children, Carol Anne and Dean Allen. Mary remained very active throughout her life. She was a kind, caring wife, mother and grandmother and very good and loyal friend to many. She was actively involved in the First Presbyterian Church, serving as a deacon, greeter and long time member of the Presbyterian Women who honored her with a life membership award. She served as a volunteer at Living History Farms sewing for the Period Clothing department and assisting at special events. She also served as a Campfire Girls leader, and 4-H leader and was a member of Omega Sigma business sorority for many years. Mary was very creative and enjoyed knitting, quilting, beading and sewing as well as baking. She was an avid reader and genealogist. She also enjoyed bicycling and canoeing with her husband Jack and her family. She will be missed by all who had the opportunity to know her.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. She is survived by her daughter Carol Anne Wise and son-in-law, Sam Wise of Dallas Center, IA; and her son Dean A. Boots and daughter-in-law, Sarah Boots of Windsor Heights, IA; and by grandchildren, Jon S. Wise, his wife Sage Evans, and Heather and Joshua Boots all of Des Moines, IA.

Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today at Westover Funeral Home, with the family present.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church or to Living History Farms.
