Mary Louise “Tweeza” Gramley, 95, formerly of Peoria, Illinois, passed away Sunday, January 9, 2022, at Deerfield Retirement Community in Urbandale, IA. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, January 22, 2022, at the Heartland Presbyterian Church.

Tweeza was born in Sandwich, Illinois on August 4, 1926, to Leon and Ruth (Lye) Gilpatrick. She graduated from Plano High School in Plano IL in 1944 and Iowa State University in 1948 with a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics. She married William E. Gramley on November 26, 1949 in Plano, Illinois. Together they had two daughters, Lori Ann (Larry) Hartsook of Clive, IA, and Sandra Sue (Londa Kitchen) Gramley of San Diego, CA, and a son, Kenneth Robert (Mary) Gramley of Westfield, IN.

Tweeza was a prolific volunteer throughout her life. She volunteered in numerous capacities at her children’s schools. She also volunteered with Girl Scouts of America, Boy Scouts of America, Methodist Medical Center Service League and was a member of PEO and Kappa Delta Alumnae. More recently at Deerfield, she served as chairperson of the New Resident Committee and volunteered at the store.

Tweeza was involved with her community church for her entire life. She was chosen as the first female elder of First Presbyterian Church of Peoria, IL, where she served in many capacities. Most recently she was a member of Heartland Presbyterian Church.

Tweeza enjoyed many interests, including reading, puzzles, and many different types of handiwork. She was an avid sewer when her children were young, and then took up knitting. In later years she hand sewed quilts for her family and various organizations.

Tweeza is survived by her children; one brother, John (Carolyn) Gilpatrick of Wycoff, NJ; five grandchildren, Michael Gramley of Morrisville, NC, Ken (Ciara) Hartsook of Austin, TX, Elizabeth Gramley of Morrisville, NC, Mark (Jenny) Hartsook of Kent, OH, Danielle (Eric) Butler of DeKalb, IL; and four great-grandchildren She was preceded in death by her husband, William (Bill) Gramley; parents Leon and Ruth (Lye) Gilpatrick; and siblings Louis Gilpatrick, Lela Gilpatrick, and Tom Gilpatrick; and informally adopted brother Ralph Darling.

Tweeza’s family would like to thank the staff at Deerfield for the care they provided during her time there. Memorial contributions may be made to the Heartland Presbyterian Church or Deerfield Foundation.
