Obituary

Mrs. Mary Maxine Hiatt, 87, died Saturday, February 19, 2005 at Wesley Acres Health Care Center from complications of cancer. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, February 23, 2005 at Dunn's Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Resthaven Mausoleum in West Des Moines.

Maxine was born September 15, 1917 in Centerville, to Charles and Edith Lenora (Thomas) McConnell. She spent most of her life in Des Moines and worked for the Iowa Department of Agriculture for 20 years. She later worked for various physicians and ended up working for the late Dr. Thomas Throckmorton as a medical secretary before retiring in 1980.

Maxine was a member of Central Presbyterian Church, Eastern Star, White Shrine, Christian Women's Club and TTT. She enjoyed traveling and meeting people. She was an unfailingly kind, upbeat and cheerful person.

Maxine is survived by her cousin, Larry (Marion) Harris of Minneapolis, MN and their family. She was preceded in death by her husband, C. Merrill Hiatt.

Visitation will be one hour prior to service at Dunn's Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be given to Orchard Place, Blank Park Zoo or the Animal Rescue League.
