Max W. Galloway died Friday, February 2, 2007 in Des Moines, Iowa, following a short illness. The family will receive friends at Dunn’s Funeral Home in Des Moines, on Monday, February 5, from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM.

Graveside services and burial will follow in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Max was born in Missouri on July 17, 1918, and soon thereafter moved to Iowa where he spent the remainder of his youth. He served on Guadalcanal in the U.S. Army during World War II, and later completed Officer Candidate School where he was commissioned as a second lieutenant. He was honorably discharged in 1946 as a first lieutenant. He married Garnet Elizabeth Bryan in 1946. Max attended and graduated from Seattle University in 1949. Following a long career in retail merchandising, Max retired from Allied Stores as a managing director. In his prime, he was an avid golfer, and later a golf historian. Max retired in Pinehurst, North Carolina in 1983 after the death of his wife.

Max is survived by his daughters, Janet (Michael) Huston of Des Moines and Susan Ryan (David Paul) of Dayton, Maine; one grandson, Nicholas Ryan; step-grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Mary Galloway; brothers, Maurice Galloway and Wayne Galloway; his wife, Garnet; and an infant daughter. Max was also preceded in death by his long-time companion during his retirement years, Aline Anderson.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa for Max’s four-legged friends.
