Maxine E. Weber, 93, of Des Moines died Wednesday, June 5, 2013, at Kavanagh House. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, June 10 at St. Ambrose Cathedral. Immediately after the Mass, luncheon will be served in the parish hall. Burial will follow at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines.

Maxine was born in Des Moines on July 21, 1919, the only child of Richard and Doretta (Bach) Geideck. She graduated from St. Joseph Academy in 1937, where her music ministry began. Following high school she worked in the accounting field. After a few years, Maxine began the work she loved; teaching young people music at St. Ambrose School and giving piano lessons. She studied classical guitar at Drake University and organ under Professor Magin. Maxine played organ and piano for services at Visitation Catholic Church and St. Ambrose Cathedral for over 60 years, helping God's people to sing and so to "pray twice." Truly, she has schooled many in music and mentored many more in liturgy and song.

Maxine received the Benemerenti Medal from Pope John Paul II in 1990 for long and exceptional service to the Catholic Church. She was honored by the Boy Scouts of America with the St. George Emblem in recognition of her outstanding service to the spiritual development of Catholic Youth in 2000. In 2008, Bishop Richard Pates, bishop of the Diocese of Des Moines, and Reverend John Bertogli, rector of St. Ambrose Cathedral, recognized both Maxine and Bob for many decades of dedicated service, "enriching the prayer, music and liturgy of our Catholic community."

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 72 years, Robert L. "Bob" Weber, several great nieces and nephews and scores of friends.

Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 3 p.m. and continue until 5 p.m. on Sunday, June 9 at Iles Funeral Homes – Westover Chapel. Memorial contributions may be directed to HCI Care Services at Kavanagh House.
