Melva Chisholm, who lived at Scottish Rite Park, died on June 15, 2004 at age 95. Melva was born in Littleport, IA, on February 10, 1909 to Nellie and Frank Sherman, Sr. Her early life centered around eastern Iowa: Strawberry Point, Edgewood, Delhi and Independence. After attending State Teachers' College (now UNI) she taught school in Lamont. In 1935 she began teaching in Manilla where she met and married Rod Chisholm. They lived in Gray and Exira before moving to Des Moines. Melva graduated from Drake University and taught 5th and 6th grades at Hubbell School before retiring in 1975.

She enjoyed playing bridge, collecting antiques and caring for her garden. She was a long-time member of Plymouth Congregational Church and Chapters HP and GX of PEO.

Surviving are two daughters: Jane Robertson (Charly) of Longmont, CO, and Marilyn Hankinson (Dick) of Des Moines; five grandchildren: Debbie Myers and Jeff Robertson of Longmont, CO; Matthew Robertson of Charlotte, NC; Mike Hankinson of Potomac, MD; and Susan Gruening of Marshalltown; and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rod; and brothers, Frank Sherman and infant brother, Merwyn.

A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday, June 21 at Plymouth Congregational Church. Memorials may be directed to the church.
