Michael Zeller Obituary

Michael Frank Zeller, 70, passed away on Monday, July 24, 2023, at Mary Greeley Hospital in Ames IA. Visitation will be held Thursday, August 3rd from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Iles Westover Chapel, service at 1:00 pm followed by burial at Resthaven Cemetery, West Des Moines IA.

Mike was born February 4, 1953, in Des Moines IA, to Richard and Alice (Leslie) Zeller. He was a 1971 graduated from Hoover High School. He also graduated from Westmar College and received his master’s degree from Iowa State University.

He was a teacher and coach at Woodward Granger High School for 23 years. From 2000 to 2021, he worked at Iowa State University in the Office of Biotechnology. He was a proud member of the Iowa Science Teachers, National Biology and Science Teachers Associations. Mike believed that you should never stop learning.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bicycling and woodworking. Mike could take pieces of wood and turn them into breathtaking furniture masterpieces that are treasured by his family. His favorite enjoyment was being with family and making many fun memories.

Mike is survived by his wife, Colleen; daughter, Dr. Anne Marie Zeller (Keith Bryant); stepchildren Lance (Christine) Bebout and Shay Bebout; step granddaughter, Cassidy Winn; brothers, Thomas Zeller, Wayne (Lynn) Zeller. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Nancy Zeller.

The family would like to specially thank Michele, Wayne and Josh DuBose; Dr. Dan Fulton and Dr. Sreenath Kodali from the McFarland Clinic.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the City of Madrid with a designation to be used on Friends of the High Trestle Trail projects.
