Obituary

Michael Stephen Carey, 41, died on March 27, 2025. Committal services with military honors will be held at 1100, 03 APR 25 at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery, near Van Meter, Iowa.

Michael was born on August 20, 1983, the son of Mary Elizabeth Mount and Bradley Stephen Carey. Michael grew up in Des Moines and graduated from Hoover High School in 2001.

Michael proudly served in the United States Air Force. His military service took him to various parts of the world including: RAF Mildenhall (Bury Saint Edmunds, UK), RAF Lakenheath (Brandon, UK) and Kadena Air Force Base (Okinawa, Japan). Michael served tours in Bagram Air Base, Afghanistan and Djibouti, Africa.

Michael returned to Des Moines after his military career. He loved spending time with his son, Joshua at the beach and sledding. He enjoyed gardening, music and history.

Michael is survived by his son, Joshua Carey of Des Moines, Iowa; his mother, Mary Carey of Apache Junction, Arizona; his sister, Elizabeth Song (Sammy) and their children, Jack, William and Benjamin of Gilbert, Arizona. He was preceded in death by his father, Bradley Carey.
