Obituary

Michael Paul Klonglan, “Mike”, 63, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family on December 29, 2023. He was born March 3, 1960, in Des Moines, Iowa to Paul & Patricia Klonglan.

On June 28, 1980, Mike married the love of his life, Diane Divis. They were blessed with two wonderful children, Chad and Staci.

Mike truly loved what he did and did what he loved. For the last 47 years he has made a name for himself in the concrete industry. Most notably, with his loving wife by his side, they started The Concrete Company.
Mike was an avid outdoorsman and worldly traveler. He enjoyed hunting, boating, and visiting the world’s finest beaches. Mike’s love of hunting led him anywhere from an African Safari, to bear hunting in Canada, to walking Iowa fields with his grandkids. He was a proud member of the Safari Club International (SCI) and Pheasants Forever. When he wasn’t hunting you would find him on the water. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends at the Lake of the Ozarks and the Des Moines River, where he was a lifetime member the Des Moines Power Boat Club. If he wasn’t captaining one of his own boats, he was following the Offshore Boat Races across the United States. For a man with many titles his favorite one was “Pa”. He made sure to be front and center for all 5 of the grandkid's sports and activities.

Mike is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Diane; children, Chad (Ashley) Klonglan and Staci (Jamison) Hoy; grandkids, Isaac, Carson, Hayden, Lincoln, and Hadli; parents, Paul (Kathy) Klonglan, Patricia (Lenny) Van Lent; mother-in-law, Gloria Divis; sister, Karolee Klonglan; brother, Greg (Josie) Anderson; brother & sister-in-laws, Carol (Melvin) Miles, Jim (Teri) Divis, Kevin Wentland and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by a host of friends he considered family. He is preceded in death by his sister, Kim Wentland and father-in-law, Ray Divis.

Visitation will be 5 PM - 8 PM Tuesday, January 2, 2024, at Iles Westover Chapel. A Celebration of life will be at 1:30 PM Wednesday, at Iles Westover Chapel. Mike will be laid to rest on a hot summer day at Glendale Cemetery, date to be determined.

In line with Mike’s generous spirit, his wishes were to be a participant of the Brain Donation Assistance Program through the Cure PSP Foundation and an organ/tissue donor through the Iowa Donor Network.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Cure PSP Foundation at CurePSP Inc www.psp.org
