Obituary

Mildred Lucille Hawbaker, 90, passed from this life on Saturday, June 13, 2009, at The Rose of East Des Moines in Des Moines, IA. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 19, at Iles Funeral Homes – Brandt Chapel in Dallas Center. Graveside and committal services will take place at 3 p.m. on Friday, at Shiner Cumberland Cemetery, in Pleasant Grove, IA.

Mildred was born on February 23, 1919 in Burlington, Iowa to William James and Anna Emma (Schulz) Hartman. She married Lloyd Raymond Wasson on November 13, 1937 in Burlington. Their marriage was blessed with three daughters: Stasia, Marcia and Portia. Lloyd preceded Mildred into eternal life on August 31, 1990. She later married Ora Alexander Hawbaker on December 6, 1997 in Dallas Center. He also preceded her into eternal life on March 4, 2005. Mildred had lived in Huxley, IA, new London, IA, Burlington, IA, and Adel, IA prior to moving to Dallas Center in 1996. She was a former member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Mt. Pleasant and was a homemaker all of her life. She was also known to be "the lady with the red hat". Mildred was a loving, caring and devoted mother and grandmother; she will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived and lovingly remembered by her three daughters, Stasia Cole of Green Valley, AZ, Marcia McClellan of Everett, WA and Portia McGuire of Grimes; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a host of several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her first husband, Lloyd; and her second husband, Ora; Mildred was preceded into eternal life by her two brothers, Wesley Hartman and Russell Hartman; and three sisters, Phyllis Saldeen, Lois Blow and Charlotte Gerling.

The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 18, at the funeral home.
