Obituary

Mirko (Duke) Dakovich passed away at his home in Norwoodville on Friday evening at the age of 94. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday December 7, 2010 at St. Joseph Catholic Church.

One of nine children, Duke started work with his father in the local coal mines at an early age. He then moved to construction where he worked for Neuman Bros. for 51 years, before retiring. A proud member of the Local 177 Laborer's Union, Duke was always available to help a family member or friend whether it be pouring concrete or helping build a house.

Duke is survived by his wife of 72 years, Helen; his brother Dr. Milton Dakovich (Shirley); three sons, John (Kay), Bill and Richard (Betty); nine grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and numerous friends. Duke was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be greatly missed.

Duke was preceded in death by his parents John and Lucy, four sisters, two brothers and a grandson.

The family would like to express their appreciation and gratitude for the kindness and caring extended by Hospice Home Care and Iowa Health nurses.

A visitation will be held on Monday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Grandview Park Funeral Home. Memorial donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made to St Joseph Catholic Church, 3300 Easton Boulevard.
