Mitziemarie McCloskey Obituary

Mitziemarie McCloskey, 91, passed away August 24, 2023 at Every Step Kavanagh House - 56th Street, Des Moines. She was born November 6, 1931 in Mason City to Ward Ray and Marvel (Goodhart) Cooper.

Mitziemarie married George Benedict McCloskey and they met while teaching ballroom dancing. She was then widowed in 1970. She enjoyed gardening and loved her grandchildren. She was strong in her Lutheran faith, a diehard Cubs fan and a proud & loud Republican.

Mitziemarie is survived by her children, Shoney Marie McCloskey and her children, Jessica Lee Bottenfield-Biehn, and Dylan Thomas Jones; Sherry Lee McCloskey and her children, George Joseph McCloskey, Shane Michael McCloskey, Haley Marie McCloskey, Jamie Marasco, Alexia Marasco, and Jacob Marasco; Jeffrey Ray McCloskey and his children, Richard, Michelle, Sara, Jeffrey George, and Joshua Collen; Shelly Dee Boltz and her children, Jennifer Ann Smith, Joshua Benjamin Boltz, Anna Marie Boltz, Sarah Elizabeth Dor, Elizabeth Sarah Boltz, and Alexandra Maria Boltz; Sheila Irene (Mark Anthony) Dietrich and her children, Conner Aidan Dietrich, Sean Michael Dietrich, Brianna Marie Dietrich, Mark Anthony Dietrich II, and Angela Dawn Dietrich; great-grandchildren, Aleah, Bella, Brandon, Carley, Dylan, Emma, Ezra, Isabella, Jonas, Kaylee, Kylie, Mavis, Megan, Milo, Miranda, Morgan, Quinn, Zander and 10 additional great-grandchildren.

Mitziemarie is preceded in death by her husband, George B.; son, George W.; parents, Ward & Marvel; brother, Lewis.

She is happily dancing in heaven with her husband, George Benedict McCloskey

Services will be 11 AM Saturday, September 16, 2023 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 600 6th Avenue, Des Moines, Iowa 50309.

Private family interment will be at Glendale Cemetery, Des Moines, Iowa.
