Obituary

Neil was born on April 12, 1954, in Ogden, Utah to Myron and Wilma Hull. The family moved from Ogden to the East Side of Des Moines, IA in 1955. Neil graduated from East High School in 1972, after a successful career as a lettered Tennis player, and was in the top 15% of his class. Neil went on to begin his career at EMC, and made his way to American Marking, Inc., using his talents to create signage around Des Moines and surrounding areas. He retired after a 42-year career.

Neil had a passion for racing, traveling, and the Iowa Hawkeyes. He began racing a Sportsman race car, with his best friend Rick, in 1975 at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines, IA. After taking a hiatus to begin their families, they returned to racing in 1993 with their beloved Dwarf car.

Neil traveled all over the country, both for work and enjoyment, wanting to see as much as possible while he was able to. He spent time exploring National Parks, landmarks, and race tracks with his friends. He was very passionate about sharing his travel experiences and encouraging others to get out and go!

Now, let's talk about sports. Neil was a die-hard Iowa Hawkeyes and Green Bay Packers fan. From shirts to rugs to memorabilia, Neil had a piece of the Hawkeyes in every room of his home. Though you may have heard him yelling at the TV a time or two (or 10), he was always rooting for the Hawkeyes, no matter the sport.

Neil's biggest passion was his family, especially his girls and grandson. He made sure that they were prepared to stand on their own, no matter the circumstances. From changing a tire to balancing a checkbook, and everything in between, he loved his little family with a fierce passion and did anything for them. He was always pushing those around him to be and do their best, but was there to help without asking for anything in return. He had a bright, but opinionated, personality and was known for his wit and wisdom. While some may not know, during his lifetime, he was a huge dog lover, having a Dalmatian (Jaws) and a Black Lab (Tugger).

Neil is survived by his father, Myron Hull, his sister, Norine Vlieger, and his children, Stacey and Katie (Chris Idler) Hull, and a grandson, Ryan Hull, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother, Wilma Hull.

Friends and family are invited to attend a Visitation from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Tuesday, February 13th at Iles Grandview Funeral Home. Following the visitation, there will be a memorial service, beginning at 4:00 pm. For all of those who knew Neil, you know he was a casual person by nature. Join us in your most comfortable jeans and Hawkeye or your favorite sports attire to celebrate his life.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established and may be directed to the family.
