Norma Jean "Cass" Casserly, 80 of Windsor Heights, Iowa died of cancer on Sunday, July 29, 2007 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, Iowa. Her body was donated to the Des Moines University Research Program at her request.

Norma "Cass" was born on October 7, 1926 in Carroll, Iowa, the daughter of Arthur and Cecilia (Kehoe) Casserly. She graduated from St. Angela Academy at Carroll and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Drake University. She was employed by the State of Iowa nearly 33 years. During her career she worked for the Department of Social Services from 1955-1961, the Board of Eugenics from 1961-1970 and the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Services 1970-1988 as a social worker/counselor at the Iowa State Vocational Rehabilitation Center. She was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Association.

Norma enjoyed travel, fine foods, the Des Moines Playhouse, Des Moines Symphony, St. Patrick’s Day celebrations, bowling, Drake Bulldogs Basketball and Relays, hockey games, the Iowa Hawkeyes and Public Radio and T.V.

She is survived by a brother, Patrick Casserly of Auburn, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Shirley Casserly. Norma will be missed by all who knew her and loved her laughter and smiling, Irish eyes.

There will be no memorial service. A Celebration of Life gathering will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions can be made to Mercy Hospice of Johnston.

The family and friends wish to thank Dr. Richard Deming and the Mercy Therapeutic Radiology staff, Dr. Loren Brown and staff at Medical Oncology and Hematology and Dr. Martin Mortens and the wonderful staff at Mercy Hospice of Johnston for all the care they gave to Norma "Cass" and her friends.
