Opal D. Knipfer, 98, passed away Friday, March 21, 2008 at Crestview Nursing & Rehab Center in West Branch, Iowa. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 25 at Westkirk Presbyterian Church, 2700 Colby Woods Drive in Urbandale, with visitation from 10:30 a.m. until service time at the church. Burial will follow at Glendale Cemetery.

Opal Dean Devine was born February 14, 1910 in Des Moines, the daughter of Floyd and Mabel (Klingensmith) Devine. She graduated from North High School in 1928. Opal married Godfrey Glen Knipfer on August 10, 1929. They celebrated their 70th anniversary in 1999. During their life together they lived in Gilmore City, Nevada and Atlantic, where her husband served as High School Principal. During World War II they lived in Houston and San Antonio. In 1947 they moved to Sioux City where her husband served as Director of Secondary Education in the Sioux City School System until his retirement in 1970.

Opal was a member of Chapter AC of T.T.T. Society, Sooland Senior Citizens, Abu Bekr Auxiliary of the Shrine and First Congregational Church in Sioux City.

Opal was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Mabel Devine; husband, Godfrey Glen Knipfer and brother, Galyn Devine. She is survived by sisters, Florence Mills of Iowa City and Audrey Willcox of Des Moines; sisters-in-law, Mary Devine of St. Louis, Missouri and Delores Knipfer of Kent, Washington, along with many nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to Abu Bekr Shrine Hospital Fund, Westkirk Presbyterian Church or a charity of the donor's choice.
