Obituary

Ora "Sid" Smith, 75, of Des Moines, devoted husband of Nancy (McClintic) Smith for 55 years, was welcomed by the arms of the Lord on November 26, 2011. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, December 1, 2011 at Iles Funeral Homes – Grandview Park Chapel. Burial will be at Laurel Hill Cemetery. His family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home.

Sid is survived by a very large and loving family: his wife, Nancy; brother, Dick and sister-in-law, Jody of Mercer, Missouri; sons, Sid Smith (Paula Lincoln) of Des Moines, Matthew and daughter-in-law, Kathy of Norwalk, Iowa; daughter, Terri (Smith) Killen and son-in-law, Don of Des Moines; and son, Patrick and daughter-in-law, Wendy of Milo, Iowa. He also is survived by 10 loving grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ora and Cora (Watkins) Smith; step-mother, Marie Blank; his brother, Paul; and grandson, Donald Gene Killen, Jr.

Sid's life was blessed by the love of his family and many friends. He was an over-the-road truck driver for Crete Carrier and an employee of Waldinger Corporation, retiring at the age of 65. Sid enjoyed fishing, camping with his wife, Nancy (his best friend), and Sky walk golf with his sons. He was the world's greatest mushroom hunter.

Memorials may be made to his family.
