Obituary

Patricia Alice Arnold died peacefully in her sleep on November 14, 2003 at Fountain West Health Care Center from complication of a stroke. A memorial service will be 11 a.m., Monday at St. Paul's Episcopal Cathedral.

Pat was born in Des Moines, Iowa on March 10, 1922, the daughter of Claude and Vera Trawver. She attended Roosevelt High School and earned her degree in education from the University of Iowa. While at the university, she met Robert W. Arnold of New York and on July 30, 1944, they were married in Babylon, Long Island.

Pat was a member of the Delta Gamma Sorority, and the Des Moines Junior League. She was an accomplished horsewoman and enjoyed her involvement in the Junior League's Des Moines Charity Horse Show. She was also a member of Questers, Terrace Hill Chapter.

Pat was a teacher for the Des Moines Public School and was involved with the establishment of the Headstart Program at Roadside Settlement. She was a Tour Guide Coordinator at Terrace and after 15 years became a Tour Guide at the Iowa State Capitol.

Pat is survived by her husband, Robert W. Arnold; sons, Robert Arnold, Jr. (Carol) of Minneapolis, MN, Christopher Arnold (Kay) of Des Moines; daughter, Kathaleen Arnold of Waterloo and three grandchildren, Elizabeth, Edward and Mary Arnold. She was preceded in death by her brother, Jay Van Trawver and her daughter, Jacie Lynn Pillsbury. Memorial contributions may be made to the Jacie Arnold Pillsbury Scholarship Foundation at Simpson College.
