Patricia Murillo Obituary

Patricia Murillo, of Des Moines, Iowa, peacefully passed away surrounded by her loving family on May 30, 2025. She was born on January 23, 1943, and spent her life building deep roots in the community she loved.

A proud graduate of East High School, Patricia was known for her tireless work ethic and dedication to serving others. She retired after fulfilling careers at the phone company, the Polk County Attorney’s Office, and DMPS Transportation, where her commitment and reliability left a lasting impact.

Patricia was preceded in death by her beloved father, George Hoskins; her mother, Leola Hoskins; and her sister, Barb Peterson. She is survived by her special friend, Larry Daum; cherished sons, Perry (Chanon) Shawver and Terry Shawver; her grandchildren, Maddison Wolver and Mason Shawver; her great-nephew, Jason (Rachel) Peterson; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Family was at the heart of everything Patricia did. She valued togetherness, laughter, and making memories with those she loved. An avid adventurer throughout her life, Patricia made lasting friendships in many circles—from bowling teams and shooting clubs to tubing for the first time at the age of 78.

Patricia also had an unmistakable love for Iowa Hawkeye spirit. Her home was filled with black-and-gold décor, and she could often be found proudly wearing Hawkeye apparel!

Visitation will be held at Grandview Iles Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, from 5-7 p.m. Her funeral will be held Wednesday, June 11, at 10:30 a.m., with burial to follow at Russell Cemetery. Her life was a vibrant journey, and she will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
