Obituary

Paul Alan Walker, 82, died Thursday, April 27, at the Kavanagh House in Des Moines, Iowa. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m., Monday, May 1, at the Westover Funeral Home, 6337 Hickman Road, Des Moines, Iowa. Visitation with the family will be on Sunday, April 30 from 3 to 5 p.m..

Paul Alan Walker was born on March 18, 1924, the son of Lloyd E. and Elsie (Cowley) Walker in Dike, Iowa. He graduated from Sumner, Iowa High School and attended Upper Iowa University. Paul and Helen (Schmidt) Walker were married on October 11, 1942. He entered the army during World War II and served with the 8th Air Force, 341st Bomb group out of Polebrook, England as a B-17 navigator. He was the navigator on the lead plane on the biggest bomb mission that the U.S. forces had over Berlin. After the war he went to work as a route salesman for the Alstad & Langles Baking Company in Waterloo, Iowa. In 1960, Paul and Helen purchased the Pastime Lounge in Eagle Grove, Iowa and operated that business until 1984. They later managed various apartment units in Colorado and Des Moines. He loved playing golf and the card games 500 and hand and foot.

Paul is survived by his wife, Helen; children, Charles (Marylou) Walker of Fort Dodge, Robert Walker of Johnston, Janice (Patrick) Coleman of Luverne, Minnesota, David (Jeanette) Walker of Eagle Grove, Pamela Walker of Johnston and Karen Walker of Otho; 14 grandchildren and 10 Great grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers, Lloyd E. Walker, Jr. of Twin Lakes, Stanley Walker of Great Falls, Montana, J. Russell Walker of Dunkerton, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Katherine Carney and Marie Walker and brother, Harold Walker.
