Paul Borchardt Obituary

Paul Duaine Borchardt was born in Des Moines to Russell & Judith Borchardt on August 3, 1966. He was gently called home to meet them and his Heavenly Father on January 2, 2025.

Paul deeply loved his wife, Lisa, his family and his friends. He was trustworthy and reliable. He prayed faithfully but preferred to pray in private. He was patriotic and loved his country. He loved to cook, grill, smoke meats, make chili, gumbo, egg rolls, candy, jerky, cinnamon rolls and more, insisting on making everything from scratch. It was always delicious and he loved to share it with others while he savored watching them enjoy his efforts.

To be loved by Paul was a wonderful thing. He truly strived to help those in his life. He was generous and shared what he had quietly, without fanfare and never wanted to be in the spotlight.

He loved to be at his cottage in Clear Lake and once said, “I have a house in Des Moines but my home is at the lake.” He loved to be on the water, loved to fish and enjoyed sharing these treasures with the people he loved. He loved listening to music and his taste was quite eclectic, having over 4000 songs on his MP3 player. Of course, anyone who knew Paul knew that he loved the Philadelphia Eagles. BTW - great Super Bowl win this year, boys!!

Paul always hoped and prayed for the best for others to lead their best lives. Paul and Lisa have a sign in their kitchen that he pointed to often that simply says, We are SO blessed.

Paul is survived by his adoring wife Lisa, his bonus-son Chance, his sister Julia (Lynn), his brother Russ (Cheryl), his nieces Karen (Adam), Kelli (Nick), his nephew Christopher (Kayla), his great nieces Maddie and Raegan and his great nephews Connor, Aiden and Jaxon. He also leaves behind his life-long best friend Bill (Lisa), about a gazillion cousins and his much loved Lake Family.
