Obituary

The State of Iowa mourns the loss of Paul Hellmuth Dieke, 73, who passed from this life on Tuesday, May 4, 2010 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. In agreement with Paul's wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. There will be no visitation or services held. A private burial will take place at a later date at Riverhurst Cemetery in Endicott, NY, where he will be laid to rest by his parents.

Paul was born the son of Hellmuth H. and Elizabeth (Warren) Dieke on May 9, 1936 in Binghamton, NY, where he started his career in the Opera. After moving to Des Moines, Iowa, Paul expanded his love of the Arts by becoming Director and Musical Director of many stage productions including: Ragtime, The Wizard of Oz, Evita, Annie Get Your Gun, Nunsense and Reefer Madness. In addition to leading the hymn sing at the Iowa State Fair, he was a judge at the Bill Riley's Talent Competition.

He is survived by his lifetime companion, Dennis Patten of Des Moines.
