Obituary

Paul Richard Knudsen, age 52, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, November 17, 2014.

Born October, 23, 1962, Paul was a lifelong resident of Des Moines. Paul graduated from Hoover High School in 1981. He went on to become a trim carpenter in the Des Moines area where he developed his own business, Knudsen Construction. Many a home is graced with his fine workmanship.

Paul was a dedicated member and one of the founders of the VFW Men's Auxiliary at Post #9127 in Beaverdale. He was President of the Auxiliary and a member of the Honor Guard. Paul established many close friends as he worked tirelessly to help build up the Post. Friday night dinners, Sunday morning brunch, Monday night football, Beaverdale Fall Festival….Paul was always there.

Paul's love for his extended family at the VFW was only matched by his love of the outdoors, the Iowa Hawkeyes, and the St. Louis Cardinals. From the time he was young and became a Boy Scout, his life has been filled with outdoor adventures - Philmont Scout Ranch, hunting, and fishing.

Ever true to friends and family, Paul was a self-less giver. From helping friends and family with construction projects to cooking meals at the VFW, Paul will be remembered for his giving spirit.

Paul's mother and sisters will not forget his mischievous smile, his many adventures with his best buddies, the Good Body Brothers Racing Team, and his own special way of caring. His nieces and nephews cherished their fishing trips and good times with "Uncle Paul".

Left to treasure his memory are his mother, Evelyn Knudsen, his sisters and their spouses, Anne and Rick Hand, Beth and Brian McLean, Carol and Carter Woodruff, and Amy Knudsen; his nieces and nephews - Erik, Ryan, Austin, Dmitri, Emily, Bailey, Caitlin, Juliette, Learie, and Salat. In addition, Paul's four-legged friend, Benny "Bruce", will miss his companionship. Countless are the friends and associates that will miss Paul's unique style.

A memorial service will be held 1:30 p.m. Friday, November 21, 2014, at Iles-Westover Chapel.

Immediately following the service the family will be holding a celebration of Paul's life at the Beaverdale VFW, Post #9127. The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Men's Auxiliary of the Beaverdale VFW, Post #9127. Private burial of the cremains will take place at Waterloo Memorial Park. Online condolences will be welcomed at IlesCares.com.
