Pauline Mae Sydness was born January 4, 1923 in Redfield, Iowa. She passed away on Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at Kavanagh House in Des Moines, with her family at her side. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 6, at Iles Funeral Homes – Brandt Chapel in Dallas Center. Burial will follow at Waukee Cemetery in Waukee.

Pauline had a generous heart and love for people. Spending time with her family and those she loved was what made her the happiest. She was employed with Holy Family School until her passing, where Pauline was the head cook for 23 years. Pauline loved the relationships she developed with the children and staff during her devoted years of service. A great joy was providing them with meals made with her love. Every time she considered retiring, Pauline's love for the children drew her back. She is survived by her son, Lonnie (Jana) Mishler of Adel; brother, Ivan (Lola) Knoll of Adel; sister-in-law, Carolyn Knoll of Adel; grandchildren, Morgan (Mike) Fountas of Adel; and one step-grandchild, Angie (Jeff) Ockerman of Adel along with their children.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages memorial contributions be given to Holy Family School, 1255 E. 9th Street, Des Moines, IA 50316, in memory of Pauline.
