Phyllis Roe Obituary

Phyllis Elaine Roe, 80, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at her home in Des Moines. She was born August 17, 1944 in Ottumwa, IA to Paul Sherman and Hilda Irene (Wilson) Hougland.

Phyllis married Vernon Roe on October 25, 1964 and to that union son, Philip and daughter, Tammy were born.

Phyllis worked more than 30 years of dedicated service to First Class Credit Union before retiring to spend time with Vern. She enjoyed gardening, playing cards, was enamored with Elvis, was very involved with her Church and desperately loved all of her family and gathered with them often.

Phyllis is survived by her son, Philip (Angela) Roe; daughter, Tammy (Scott) McDaniel; grand-children, Stacy (Fred) Castillo, Treasa (Andy) Bremmer, Kym Webb, Max (Rebecca) Roe, Sean Roe, Cody McDaniel, Jacob (Morgan) McDaniel; 17 great grand-children; siblings, Jerry (Marilyn) Hougland, Doris Newton, James Hougland, Virginia Mullinix, Charles (Diane) Hougland; sister-in-law’s, Katie (Keith) Bond, Loretta Speck, Sally Hougland, Marlene Hougland.

Phyllis is preceded in death by her parents, Paul & Hilda Hougland; husband, Vernon Roe; siblings, Helen (Art) Fuhr, Harold Hougland, Alfred Hougland and David Hougland; and brother-in-law's, Bob Newton and DeWayne Mullinix.

Visitation will be 6-8 PM, Thursday, November 14, 2024 at Iles Grandview Park Chapel, 3211 Hubbell Avenue. Funeral service will be 11 AM, Friday, November 15, 2024 at Sheridan Park United Methodist Church, 4100 East Sheridan Avenue. Burial will follow service at Rising Sun Cemetery.
