Rachel C. Jacob, 92, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 28th, 2011 at the Urbandale Health Care Center in Urbandale, IA. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 30th, at Iles Funeral Homes, Westover Chapel in Des Moines, where the family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service time on Saturday. Burial will follow at Waukee Cemetery in Waukee, IA.

Mrs. Jacob was born the fifth of seven daughters to Mr. and Mrs. N.J. Chacko on March 3rd, 1919 in Kumbanad, Kerala, India. She married Mr. Cherian Jacob (former Asst. Headmaster at Madras Christian College High School) in 1942 and they spent most their lives in Chennai, India. Mrs. Jacob was a devoted wife and mother to her four daughters: Saramma "Sarah", Elizabeth, Crissy, and Susan. She had a passion for children's education and was the Superintendent of the Church of South India Elementary Schools for 31 years in Chennai. Mrs. Jacob started the Puthuir School for children with mental and physical disabilities also in Chennai. In May 2001, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob moved to stay with their children in the United States.

Mrs. Jacob will be deeply missed by her children: Sarah (C.J.) Alexander of Waukee, Elizabeth (John) Manaloor of Augusta, GA, Crissy (Rajan) Kaleekal of Lenexa, KS and Susan Jacob of Overland Park, KS; one sister, Chinnamma John of India; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded into eternal life by her husband, Mr. Jacob in April 2010; and five sisters.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Puthuir School for the Intellectually Disabled Children in Chennai.
