Obituary

Rea D. Roe went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on November 8, 2024, at the age of 94. Rea was born, the oldest of three, in Humeston, Iowa on May 10, 1930, to Arthur L. and Nell J Roe.

Rea graduated from Humeston High School in 1948. He joined the United States Air Force serving four years during the Korean War. He served a year in the Aleutian Islands, Adak Island, Alaska and at SAC headquarters in Omaha, Nebraska. He also served 16 years in the Air Force Reserves and the Air National Guard.

While in high school, Rea met Verneva (Nevie) Kelley. They married in Corydon, Iowa on June 9, 1950. They were happily married for 73 years. They lived in Omaha, Nebraska before moving to Des Moines, Iowa where Rea attended Drake University. He worked at Northwestern Bell Telephone Company for 31 years. After retirement from the phone company, he was a Realtor with Iowa Realty for 11 years. They lived in the Legacy Pointe neighborhood in Waukee, Iowa and had many close friends there.

Rea and Nevie were blessed with two children: Julie Roe Siedenburg (Douglas) and Craig Allan Roe (deceased, 1970). Rea was a devoted brother, husband, father and grandfather. He sincerely loved people and never knew a stranger.

Rea accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior as a 14-year-old boy and followed Christ the rest of his life. Music was always important to Rea. He played the saxophone and was a member of the Good News Five, a gospel quintet praising the Lord in churches around the Midwest for 27 years. He served on church deacon boards, (including being a founding member and deacon of New Hope Assembly of God church), in choirs and in other musical groups.

Rea was preceded in death by his wife, Nevie (August 2023); his parents; his son, Craig (1970), and brother, Charles and sister-in-law Beverly. He is survived by sister, Carla Jacobsen (John); daughter, Julie Siedenburg (Doug); grandchildren, Joel and Daniel Siedenburg (Stephanie) and several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will take place at New Hope Assembly of God Church, 4425 - 70th Street, Urbandale, Iowa, on November 20, 2024. The family will receive friends at 9:30 AM. The service will start at 11:00 AM. Private internment will take place at Iowa Veterans Cemetery.

Memorials may be directed to New Hope Assembly of God, Urbandale, Iowa and/or Hope Ministries, Inc. Des Moines, Iowa.
