Obituary

Rebecca “Becky” Ann Jordan was born April 26, 1953, in Mount Ayr, Iowa, to Dale and Shirley (Cortner) Walters.

As a child, Becky lived in Blockton and West Des Moines before moving to De Soto in 1961. She attended De Soto Elementary, and continued in Adel-De Soto after the schools consolidated, graduating in 1971.

After graduating, Becky worked at the Skelly Truck Stop as a waitress. While working, she met William Russell Jordan. The two married February 4, 1973, and immediately started a family.

Through the beginning years of their marriage, the young family moved several times before settling in Madrid in 1982, where Becky lived out the remainder of her years.

Becky was a homemaker until her youngest child started school. She worked as a home health aide for several years and enjoyed spending time with her clients. She volunteered for many years at the Madrid Public Library, where as soon as possible she became as a part-time library aide. At the beginning of the 1991-92 school year she started working as a lunch lady, retiring in 2016.

Becky enjoyed many hobbies over the years, starting as a small child making poppies with her Grandpa George for his local VFW to raise money for veterans. She enjoyed reading, gardening, and collecting music boxes, paperweights, bride’s baskets, snow globes, and Depression glass. During the holidays she enjoyed baking, especially her cut-out sugar cookies. Her favorite pastime was spending time with her grandchildren.

Becky is survived by her brothers, Douglas Walters, Sr. of Lamont and Eric (Jennifer) Walters of Des Moines; daughters, Deborah Jordan, Elizabeth (Mike) Theisen and Paula Jordan all of Madrid, and Joanie Jordan of Ankeny; two step daughters, Lisa( Ed Stewart) Dubbs Sand Springs, OK and Wendy (Tony) Baker of Graham, WA grandsons, Airman 1st Class Colton Theisen and Thomas Skalicky of Madrid; granddaughter, Hannah Theisen of Madrid; five step granddaughters, three step great grandsons and thee step great granddaughters, many special friends and extended family members; and furbabies, Little Girl and Minx.

Becky was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, William Russell Jordan; parents, Dale and Shirley Walters; brother, Michael Walters; grandparents, George and Mary Mabel Walters and Charles and Lula Cortner; and Steve Poindexter, who had become like a son to her.
