Obituary

Reed Erickson, 59, passed away Dec. 2, 2014, at Mercy Hospice, Johnston, following a courageous eighteen month battle with cancer.

He was born June 25, 1955 in Baudette, Minnesota to Gordon and Marguerite Erickson. The family moved to Iowa prior to Reed beginning school. He attended Dallas Center – Grimes Schools.

Reed began his life long career as a Teamster shortly after leaving high school. He was a driver for Ace Lines, Highway Carriers and finally Standard Forwarding. He retired in 2012 after thirty-eight years as a Teamster.

Reed was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved the outdoors. He enjoyed traveling, especially with a camper. Most of all Reed enjoyed spending time with family, friends and his special little girl, Belle Starr, watching old westerns.

Reed cherished his family and friends. He was a kind hearted soul who would help anyone. Many of you have been the recipient of his huge hands helping to move, paint, auto repairs, remodeling homes, building fence, driving across country or running errands. You name it and he would try to help. We are all fortunate to know the kindness of his huge heart. He was a fine example of a wonderful husband, loving father, son and brother.

He is survived by his wife, Kate of Dallas Center, IA; daughter Nicky and Dave Bender of Des Moines, IA; son Jake and Dariel Blevins of Colorado Springs, CO. Sisters, Kathi and Kevin Nash of Minburn, IA; Wendy and Larry Collins of Dallas Center, IA; Krystal Gearhart of Portland, TN; Lee and Joe Glaser of Lincoln, NE; and brother, Steven Erickson of Grimes, IA. Brothers-in-law, Bob and Patty Webster of Rogers, AR and Mike Webster of Decatur City, IA.

Preceded in death by his parents, a niece and his father-in-law.

Memorial services will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, December 6, 2014, at Iles-Brandt Chapel in Dallas Center where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to AHeinz57 Pet Rescue and Transport, PO Box 188, DeSoto, Iowa 50069-0188. Online condolences will be welcomed at IlesCares.com.
