Retha Masengill Obituary

Retha Leila (Hunt) Masengill, 95, of Dallas Center passed away peacefully on the 3rd day of April 2023, at Adel Acres in Adel, Iowa. Retha was born in Perry, Iowa on the 18th day of December 1927 to Forrest and Clara Hunt.

Retha married Edgar (Bud) Masengill on the 30th day of March 1947 in Adel. She worked at Woodward State Hospital for many years. Retha was Elvis Presley’s number one fan. She loved working crossword puzzles, and writing poetry. She was well known for her cooking and baking which she generously shared with others. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren.

Retha is survived by her children, Terry (Kathy) Masengill of Dallas Center, Sherie Russell of Huxley; grandchildren, Tammy (Tom) Yokley, Shelly Hadley, Andrew (Amanda) Willis; great grandchildren, Tommy (Megan) Yokley, Trevor (Chandler) Yokley, Shelleah Hadley; great -great granddaughters Millie and Lennon Yokley; sisters, Sondra Paul, Sherrill (Rodney) Henry. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers: Lynn, Kreigh, Burdette; sisters: Karean Selicon, Arlis Dollarhide, Arleta Grove, Afton Cabelka, Donna Correy; great grandson Joshua Webster.

A celebration of life will be Saturday April 15, 2023 at Legion Memorial Hall in Dallas Center at 1:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Legion Auxiliary Post 49 Dallas Center or Suncrest Hospice in loving memory of Retha.
