Rich was born in Des Moines on November 11, 1974 to Roger and Arlene (Jensen) Greenough and grew up in Slater. He was a heavy equipment operator and member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 234.

Rich truly loved a simple life. He loved to travel, and his free time was spent having quality one on one time with the people he loved the most. He enjoyed rock concerts with his brothers and his special “uncle” Andy, fishing with his best friend Brandt, and taking long drives that usually ended with hiking at a state park. The Ledges and Jester Park were some of his favorite places. He was so proud of his nieces and nephews and loved to spend time with them as well. Rich liked to read and share those stories with others. He could remember the smallest details and got so excited to tell you all about his literary adventures! He especially enjoyed reading about hiking the Pacific Crest Trail and the Appalachian Trail and ANYTHING by Bill Bryson.

His greatest passion, however, was always his daughters, and his life took on new meaning when each of them was born. He took them to movies, out to eat, and regularly surprised them with donuts and other treats. They often times joined him on his state park outings, and he enjoyed attending their school functions. He was the dad that would carve pumpkins and make gingerbread houses, he would help them dye Easter eggs and decorate the Christmas tree, and of course, he loved to read them bed time stories. If they had an idea that needed supported, he was their “yes man”! Being their dad was his greatest and proudest accomplishment.

Those left to cherish Rich's memory include his daughters, Tatum and Leah Greenough and their mother, Michelle Greenough of Granger; parents, Roger and Arlene Greenough of Slater; siblings, Leslie Stephens, Linda (Adrian) Mueller and Quentin Greenough; 15 nieces and nephews and 3 grandnephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Guy Greenough.

Contributions will be directed to Rich’s daughters, in care of Quentin Greenough via Sundberg Kirkpatrick Funeral Home.
