Richard “Doc” Nace, 76, of Urbandale died March 17, 2020 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center, due to natural causes. Private graveside services will be held at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held in the near future.

Doc was born in Springfield, OH on April 30, 1943 to Pauline (Patterson) and Everett Nace. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. As a personnel officer, he learned organizational, motivational and interpersonal skills. Along with his natural sales ability, Doc applied these skills to many of his own successful businesses, including, Bullseye Satellite TV of Des Moines and Southside Bait and Tackle as well as Rei Lake Fishing in Springfield, OH.

Doc enjoyed filling his time with friendships including those he made through the Fraternal Order of Eagles #109. He refused to quit and loved winning at fun activities like golf, fishing and gambling. Doc was always filled with laughter and joy. He could brighten any room. He will be remembered by many people whom he influenced to “be better” and “reach higher.”

Those left to cherish Doc’s memory include his wife of 48 years, Phyllis (Hoyum) Nace of Urbandale; three sons, Brent Haegele and Kerry Haegele of Des Moines and Travis (Belinda) Nace of Spring Hill, KS; two daughters, Elizabeth (Mark) Deyo of Cedar Rapids and Barbara Pitts of Chandler, AZ; ten grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and nephew, Brandon Stokes of South Vienna, OH; as well as his “Fur Babies” Charlie and Annie.

He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Kara Haegele; sister, Debra Kay Nace Stokes; and niece, Kiersten Sierra Stokes.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Animal Rescue League or the American Diabetes Association.
