It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Richard Duane Bright, age 66, who died peacefully at his residence in Des Moines, Iowa, on October 29, 2025. Richard was born in Des Moines on July 17, 1959, to Robert David Bright and Bessie Virginia Bright.

A devoted educator, Richard taught for 39 years, most recently at East High School as well as Roosevelt High School, Hoyt and Harding Middle Schools and Gilman and Cresco before retiring in June 2021. Richard served as an Association Representative for Iowa State Education Association and was a member of bargaining team for many years. Leaving a lasting impact on his students and colleagues alike. His dedication to his career and his compassionate nature made him a beloved figure in the community.

Richard is survived by his two sisters, Richarda Seuferer and Ronda Ault, and his niece, Misty Bishop all from Des Moines, who will miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert David Bright, and his mother, Bessie Virginia Bright. He will be missed by several extended family members and friends.

Visitation will be held on Monday, November 3, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Iles Grandview Park Funeral Home in Des Moines.
